Accessibility at the Teatro Massimo

The Teatro Massimo is committed to making art accessible to all. We works constantly to improve the accessibility of our spaces and cultural programme for the audience.

Accessing the Operahouse

Persons with reduced mobility can access the theatre for guided tours and performances through barrier-free paths.
The ticket office and starting point for guided tours are located on the ground floor, on the left-hand side of the monumental staircase.
The main entrance has 31 steps. The accessible entrance without steps (gate no. 4) is located to the left of the main entrance, on the same side as the the Rouge et Noir cinema, and is open for performances from one hour before the start.
If the gate is closed at your arrival, please contact the theatre staff or call the concierge on +39 091 6053521.

Lifts (Elevators)
Starting from the ticket office/guided tours area, you can find the two lifts available to the public: one leads to the foyer and stalls, the other to the five tiers of boxes.
The lift for the boxes is located on the left side of the auditorium (facing the stage), in front of the boxes no. 25 and no. 26.
Please note that the right-hand side of the first tier of boxes (boxes 14 to 2 “primo ordine”) is only accessible via stairs (9 steps).
The gallery, located above the 5th tier of boxes, can only be reached via two flights of stairs of 8 steps each.

Toilets
Toilets are available on each floor. Toilets accessible to people with physical disabilities are located on the ground floor (close to the box-office) and in the foyer (on the first floor). Toilets on the upper floors are located in the left side corridors (boxes no. 18 to no. 30) for ladies and in the right side corridors (boxes no. 14 to no. 2) for gentlemen.

Service Wheelchair
A wheelchair is available to the public for use within the theatre premises.
