From today the panoramic terrace around the Dome is open to guided tours. The summer season ends with over eight thousand spectators. The project for the restoration of the lion’s tail is ready and financed.

Over two hundred visitors for the Notte di San Lorenzo to toast under the stars on the terrace of the Teatro Massimo which dominates the whole city. And, after the inauguration, from today the terrace will be permanently accessible within the guided tours of the Theater (ticket 20 euros), which is the most visited monument in Palermo after the Palatine Chapel. The Teatro Massimo thus closed its summer season “Summerwhere” with over eight thousand spectators between paid events in the two locations (Teatro di Verdura and Castello Utveggio) and participants in the two free events proposed during the festival: the collective performance of Vexations by Satie for 24 hours straight and Curran’s ship siren concert for the Santa Rosalia Feast.

“Una stagione estiva che ha consolidato il legame del Teatro con la città – dice il sovrintendente Francesco Giambrone – una stagione che ha abbracciato il rito popolare e le stelle e che ha coinvolto pubblici diversi. L’appuntamento adesso è a settembre con la ripresa della stagione 2015, che proporrà pure diverse soprese sempre nel segno della condivisione e dell’apertura del Teatro alla città”. La prossima opera in cartellone è Bohème, che debutta il 18 settembre.
Intanto è pronto il progetto di restauro della coda di uno dei leoni di bronzo (quello di destra, guardando il teatro, opera di Benedetto Civiletti) che è stata spezzata forse in un tentativo di furto. “Il progetto di restauro è pronto – aggiunge Giambrone – ed è stato inviato in Soprintendenza per l’approvazione. Sarà finanziato dalle associazioni Amici dei Musei siciliani e Amo Palermo, tasselli importanti di quella società civile con la quale vogliamo tessere un rapporto proficuo e costante”.
